Business Woman's Travel Concerns
A CorporateCare member emailed us asking for advice concerning female safety on a lone business trip to Tunisia. She was especially concerned about travelling to and from her office and wanted some more information on Islamic customs.
A red24 team member immediately took further details and ascertained her week long stay was only based around one area, which was relatively multicultural and did not appear to implement a strict degree of Sharia Law. However red24 stressed the importance of complying with standard customs applicable throughout Islamic regions, involving appropriate dress, behaviour and conduct.
As well as observing social etiquette, red24 advised the member of personal safety issues for women. We highlighted the high crime rate and suggested ways to blend in, appear confident and avoid unwanted attention. With regard to her transport concerns, we advised she use the hotel's own taxi service and to always sit in the back. We also alerted her of segregated areas where women are not permitted and behavioural taboos with specific attention to women in the company of men.
For practicality our member emphasised her need for a short reference guide in a printable format. In response we emailed her our findings tailor made to her requirements in simple, digestible bullet points and short tips. We also mailed across details of the local British consulate, emergency service numbers and travel enquiry centres.
