Civil unrest in Manila
A distressed British businessman and red24alert member, called red24 from a local hotel in Manila. He had been informed by a local taxi driver that there was a planned protest against the International Coalition against Terrorism, of which Britain was a member, in the city later that day. He had just been dropped off by the taxi driver in an area where demonstrators were starting to gather and had taken refuge in a local hotel.
red24 urged the member to remain in his hotel while we investigated the situation, and assured him that we would maintain regular contact with him. Following an extensive search of various news sources and our country intelligence archive, it was ascertained that the situation was indeed unsafe and that violence was widespread. Extraction of our client to a place of safety was imperative.
Within 24 hours of the call being received, a red24 security consultant, resident in the region, was dispatched to Manila. The member was advised of this and was continually briefed by our advisors of the latest security situation.
Once in Manila, our consultant organised for the safe transfer of the member to another hotel in a safer part of Manila, and remained with him by staying in an adjoining room. As the unrest in the city began to worsen over the next few hours, it was felt that the member's safety would be compromised if he were to remain in Manila. Accordingly, our consultant arranged for the member to catch an earlier flight back home on the following day, and personally escorted him to the airport to ensure his safe departure.
