Attitude

Our main aim at Planet Wise is for you to leave one of our courses equipped with the kind of attitude and mindset that will ensure a safe and fulfilling travel experience.

We genuinely love the interactive sessions on all our courses and from the feedback we get, so will you. Whether we test you out crossing a 'hostile border' or see how you react to a mock fire you're sure to have fun and learn a fair bit along the way.

This is achieved by throwing you into travel related scenarios and interactive exercises. Some we tell you about and others are designed to be a surprise.

All are designed to ensure that you're mentally prepared for anything you're likely to encounter whilst travelling.

"Over the three days, our attitude was tested in various ways. From the first minute we arrived we had to think and act like travellers - from understanding cultural issues to dealing with authority I feel much more capable"

How safe is your stuff?

Do you know how to react in the following circumstances?

  • You have been at a border crossing for three hours and there seems to be no sign of movement.
  • You try to confirm your flight but are told it's fully booked.
  • The group you're travelling with decides to split up - who do you go with?
  • All your worldly possessions have ended up in Laos but you are in Lima.
  • You are getting stressed out over the continuous hassle of beggars and touts.

Travel presents all sorts of challenges that you need to be prepared for. We can help you by getting you to think like a traveller. Over the three days you'll learn to apply the following principles…

  • Preparation… from having the right currency and the right entry papers, to knowing how to speak a few words of the language and where to find a room for the night.
  • Responsibility… for yourself, for your travelling companions, for your kit, your health and your actions.
  • Respect… for traditions, religions, and the laws of the land, your fellow travellers and yourself.
  • Self-control… so, the local brew is cheap and available, but will you still have your bag with you when you wake up in the morning?
  • Intuition… learning to trust your own intuition is one of the first steps to steering clear of trouble, so start listening to the voices in your head.
  • Flexibility… expect and accept the unexpected. A good traveller will embrace this principle, and view it as half the fun of travel.
