Boat Travel

Rafting

  • Check the company has appropriate licence/documents.
  • Ensure they have good steering people with a good knowledge of the river you will be rafting.
  • Check the equipment - life jackets (should fit well around your body, have reinforced shoulders and have a strap between the legs) and helmets are a must, Avon or Aqua boats are good and Bora if in good condition. Wetsuits are a good indicator for equipment condition.
  • It is best to raft with more than one boat… there are more people to save you if you fall out!
  • Start at the beginning; level II… if you jump in at the deep end you may never want to raft again.

Boats/Ferries

  • Check the condition of the boat, does it look safe?
  • How many people does it hold, are there too many on board, if so, get off.
  • Check for life jackets; don't assume they are there.
