- Never ignore local customs and traditions
- Respect all cultures and religions whatever your beliefs or
feelings
- Research what to do and what not to do in certain cultures.
- Females cannot talk directly to a Buddhist monk unless they
approach you first.
- Make sure you cover shoulders, upper arms and upper legs when
visiting churches and temples.
- Try to find out about local culture and tradition; it can only
enhance your experience.
- Blond females are often portrayed as loose women by the cultures
of the East: be aware of unwanted attention.
- Festivals occur the world over and are amazing experiences,
be aware that at times they can be a fasting festival, therefore
you wont get anything to eat!
- Always pass prayer wheels and Mani stones in a clockwise fashion.
- Be aware of dry countries and states - no alcohol, means, no
alcohol.
- In some cultures the use of marijuana and cocaine is seen as part of the religion, this does not necessarily mean it is legal for you to indulge.
If you happen to be an American travelling in Laos, don't admit to being American, during the Vietnam War you dropped more bombs in Laos than in Nam!
