• Read the small print, make sure it covers all planned activities, the countries you are travelling to, the length of time you intend to spend in each country and pre-existing medical conditions. Check the no-claim and most importantly the price.
  
• You might well already have travel insurance (through your bank account etc) but these policies will rarely cover you for extended trips.
  
• Year long policies can often be the cheapest.
