Trekking & Altitude

  • Make sure your shoes are comfortable before you start
  • Firm up your feet before you start
  • If you know that you have soft feet, protect them before, not after the blisters arrive
  • The fitter you are before your trip the more you will enjoy it.
  • Train with a backpack before you travel
  • Wear suitable clothing when trekking, not jeans!
  • When trekking at altitude, 'climb high: sleep low', it is the golden rule for acclimatisation.
  • Take good maps and know how to use them
  • Make sure you apply for any permits if they are needed
  • Drink lots of water
  • Take a water filter with you
  • Wear strong sun-cream when trekking at altitude
  • Don't forget your sunglasses
